2 Chainz - The Play Don't Care Who Makes It - EP (Def Jam)
Released: February 8th, 2018
ATL legend 2 Chainz is back with a new EP, The Play Don't Care Who Makes It. This is a follow up to his 2017 release Pretty Girls Like Trap Music.
Overall, 2 Chainz came through with a solid EP. Only lasting four songs and 16 minutes, this release finds 2 Chainz looking back on his hometown of Atlanta. He reflects on a couple songs while also attempting to "make his momma proud" with fellow rappers YG & Offset.
On "Proud (feat. YG & Offset)", we hear flows over a very simple and looping synth pattern. Discussing how they all take care of their mommas, all three artists come together for a banger.
Another highlight is "Lamborghini Truck (Atlanta Shit)". The beat is slow and infectious, including little female vocal samples throughout. 2 Chainz spits bars about ATL hip-hop while giving credit to the people who have helped him get to where he is today...
"Killer Mike from Adamsville
Fam Goon from the Bluff
Where you from? Where you rode the bus?
Yeah, them Migos from the North
And I'm like the Snowman when I'm holdin' on a fork
And I'm like Dro when I'm rockin' Polo Sport
I feel like Gucci when I'm walkin' out of court
Rest in peace Lo, rest in peace Bankroll
One time for Rocko, Tip, and Roscoe"
He continues to shoutout out Future, Young Thug, DJs, and strippers on his way out.
This EP isn't just a place holder. 2 Chainz actually came through with 4 catchy tracks to keep fans more than satisfied until he releases his next big project. Listen below...

Migos - Culture II (Capitol Records)
Released: January 26th, 2018
Another Atlanta powerhouse, Migos, released Culture II last month. Obviously, a follow up to Culture (2017), this album spans 24 songs while lasting an hour and 45 minutes.
The setlist is full of heavyweights including 21 Savage, Drake, Gucci Mane, Travis Scott, Ty Dolla $ign, Big Sean, Post Malone, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B and 2 Chainz.
Unfortunately, this star-studded lineup couldn't save Culture II from failing.
Outside of the primary hits and singles, this album is just way too long. Culture wasn't even an hour but it packed a punch with each track. On II, we hear Migos just trying to fill gaps with decent leftovers.
In terms of content, the Migos rap to their normal shtick. Constantly trading flows with one another over dense instrumentals. They flex their muscles on the highlights "Supastars", "Walk It Talk It (feat. Drake)", "Stir Fry", "White Sand (feat. Travis Scott, Ty Dolla $ign & Big Sean)" and "Motorsport (feat. Nicki Minaj & Cardi B)". Outside of these tracks I couldn't find anything else appealing.
After a few listens, you find the tunes and melodies blending together. Without any distinctions the album becomes muddled and turns into a "list of songs" rather than a concise album. If they consolidated the track-list to match the length and general consistency of Culture, they would've had a more memorable follow-up to their best album to date.
On the other hand, if you do enjoy that specific Migos flavor and style, check this album out. The beats are full and thick; accompanied by legends Pharrell and Kanye West on a few songs.
Overall, Migos failed to live up to the hype of Culture II, let alone its predecessor. Listen below...
