Tennis - We Can Die Happy - EP (Mutually Detrimental)

Released: November 10th, 2017

Indie-pop sweethearts, Tennis, are back with a new set of tunes on We Can Die Happy - EP. Their last release was their fourth studio album, Yours Conditionally, which was released earlier this year in March. Full of soothing soft-rock and catchy indie jams, that album was very enjoyable and lasting, including the popular single "In The Morning I'll Be Better".

On We Can Die Happy, Tennis follows that same route; leaning on their sonic strengths to deliver 16 minutes of solid indie-rock.

"No Exit" and "I Miss That Feeling" are two standouts, both capturing that true 'Tennis vibe'.

The keyboards on "No Exit" create a simple layer behind a swimming bass line and neat drumming. Alaina Moore's gentle vocals shine through like on any good Tennis song.

"I Miss That Feeling" includes these light, continuous piano strikes along a soothing guitar melody. The acoustic percussion along with the drumming drive the song forward while the guitar and vocal melody complement the overall track. One of the better Tennis songs to date.

Unfortunately, "Building God" falls short for me. I do enjoy Moore's vocals, but on multiple points in this track I lose interest and become annoyed by her vocal performance. The closing 30 seconds is a beautiful moment though.

This is a solid EP. Assuming it includes some possible leftovers from Yours Conditionally, it still holds true to that Tennis sound and holds true to their sonics and strengths. Using keyboards, simple acoustic percussion, pretty guitar work, and Alaina's vocals, Tennis creates another soft-rock record to get lost in. Listen below...

BC Unidos - Bicycle - EP (Sony Music Sweden)

Released: November 10th, 2017

Swedish producer Patrik Berger and Markus Krunegard come together to form BC Unidos, and in turn create their debut EP, Bicycle.

I have never heard of either of these musicians prior to this release. Berger has made some waves within in pop-music but nothing too intense.

Personally, I am extremely pleased that I stumbled upon this EP. This project contains extremely solid tracks that come from a range of genres, sprouting from pop-instrumentation.

The lead song "Bicycle (feat. Shungudzo)" is a simple and catchy pop tune. The synth melody paves the way for shakers, bass hits and claps. The bass line is groovy, working hand in hand with the primary synth pattern. The chorus vocals are straightforward and catchy. The synth chords play a huge role in the development of the instrumentation, truly bumping up the song prior to its conclusion.

"I'm a Dream (feat. Charli XCX)" and "Trouble in the Streets (feat. Carly Rae Jepsen)" are back to back indie-pop jams.

"I'm a Dream" is driving and rolling, containing a very quick and mysterious vocal from Charli XCX. The drums are simple while the synth build ups elevate the song completely. A very neat and quick indie-pop tune.

"Trouble in the Streets" is something that sounds extremely similar to The Drums, but a more poppier version. The guitar work is light and bright, but to the point. The drumming is tight and snappy while Jepsen's vocals impress the listener. The instrumentation and vocal work is great, creating a very solid track indie-pop song.

If you are into indie-pop, I highly suggest this EP. I have never heard of this group and I am happy I found them. Their production is fantastic while the instrumental chemistry with pop-stars like Charli XCX and Carly Rae Jepsen help them deliver a great EP. Listen below...
