21 Savage, Offset & Metro Boomin - Without Warning (Slaughter Gang/Epic/Sony Records)

Released: October 31st, 2017

Hip-hop heavyweights and trap notables 21 Savage and Offset link up with producer Metro Boomin to deliver a surprise album, Without Warning.

No need for introduction, 21 Savage, Offset and Metro Booming have been dominated the hip-hop/rap scene for the past couple years.

Their unique styles combine with Metro's crisp production to create a half-an-hour worth of solid hip-hop. Travis Scott and fellow Migos member Quavo make an appearance.

This is a solid record and great surprise on Halloween. Personal standouts include "Ghostface Killers", "Ric Flair Drip", "Nightmare", "Mad Stalkers" and "Run Up the Racks".

The leadoff "Ghostface Killers" contains these dark and low synths they lay right beneath a simple, light drum pattern. It also includes some haunting keys that sit in the background. The Travis Scott feature is a bonus.

"Ric Flair Drip" is my personal favorite on the record because of the production. The bass line creates a flow and bounce that works so comfortably along Offset's chorus. The track is solid rap tune that still holds pop/trap appeal.

Overall, this is a solid project from three all-stars. The connection and chemistry is there all throughout the album. 21's dark and gloomy cadence match with the flavor from Migos' Offset to create a great back'n'forth from start to finish. If you're fan of any of these three, check out this album. Great trap beats and production mesh seamlessly with Offset and 21 all over. Listen below...

Joji - In Tongues EP (88 Rising)

Released: November 3rd, 2017

Internet legend and contemporary musician Joji (also known as Filthy Frank, Pink Guy, etc.) comes through with a new EP, In Tongues.

Never listened to his work previously but decided to give it try due to the attention it has received on social media. All throughout the project, the production is very moody, nocturnal and sleepy.

The lead track "Will He" is intoxicating, slowing down the listener completely. The soft piano keys play right next to a hidden trap beat with rattling hi-hats. His vocal expands along a dark and viscous instrumental.

Again, Joji's vocals create a vibe on "Pills". The instrumental widens up more and includes some nice synths along the way.

The drum pattern rolls on "Demons" while Joji discusses his issues with his own personal demons.

On "Window" we hear a very prevalent contemporary hip-hop beat. Again, the production is very subdued and blue.

Very similar to the vibe and sonics of Spooky Black, Joji delivers an EP nothing short of great. The production is smooth and full, while still remaining very chill and breezy. In Tongues creates a wavey and nocturnal environment, allowing the listener to doze off in another world. Listen below...
